How to run a marathon at home while working

Why 'sittingitis' is the new taboo and why standing up is so important.

Working from home is a challenge.

There is no ‘water cooler talk’ when you need a break and many are juggling domestic duties – not to mention home schooling – at the same time.

Professional work stations are almost non-existent – many people are working at a dining table, from their lounge or even from their bed.

None of these are great  for posture – it’s almost impossible to  avoid back and neck pain when sitting like this for hours on end.

Standing up could be the answer.

Standing desks have many great benefits including lowering your blood pressure, reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, reducing the symptoms of lower back pain and improving posture.

They also burn around 50 additional calories an hour while you use one.

So by standing  for half of your working day, or for around  four hours, you’ll burn a staggering 200 extra calories a day.

That’s 1000 per week and a massive 52,000 each year, which is the equivalent of running 18.71 marathons, all from behind your desk, all while you work.

The Varidesk Pro Plus 36 is a great standing desk solution.

The clever design takes you from sitting to standing in under three seconds and comes fully assembled with no installation needed – it simply slots on top of your normal desk, dining table or breakfast bar.
